The NEC X7139A1-V02AB is a plug-in unit in the X71xx-numbered optical-card group of NEC’s FOTS (Fiber Optic Transmission System) FD-1840-series optical transmission platform. The FD-1840 series is SDH/PDH-generation fibre-optic transmission equipment used to multiplex and carry voice, data and alarm signalling over optical fibre links. A terminal is built from multiplexer, demultiplexer, channel, alarm and power units in a common card-cage shelf, and units are matched to the specific shelf generation and release they were built for.

The X71xx numbering block also includes NEC’s X7153B, a FOTS high-speed optical transmit card; cards in this group are optical-side units rather than tributary channel or alarm cards. NEC has not supported this generation for many years, so match the replacement to the shelf and slot it is going into.
