The NEC X7139E1-V02BB is a plug-in unit in the X71xx-numbered optical-card group of NEC’s FOTS (Fiber Optic Transmission System) FD-1840-series optical transmission platform. The FD-1840 series is SDH/PDH-generation fibre-optic transmission equipment used to multiplex and carry voice, data and alarm signalling over optical fibre links. A terminal is built from multiplexer, demultiplexer, channel, alarm and power units in a common card-cage shelf, and units are matched to the specific shelf generation and release they were built for.

The same X71xx numbering block includes NEC’s X7153B, a FOTS high-speed optical transmit card, so cards in this group are optical-side units rather than tributary channel or alarm cards. NEC has not supported this generation for many years; the shelf and slot the replacement unit is going into is the surest route to an exact match.
