The NetApp 111-00569 is an IOM3 SAS I/O module for the DS4243 disk shelf, listed under the X5712A-R6 catalogue code. It is the shelf’s controller interface, running at 3Gb/s SAS and providing the SAS ports that connect the shelf to a storage controller and daisy-chain it to further shelves in the same stack. Shelves are fitted with two IOM modules so that each has a path from both controllers in an HA pair, which is what keeps disks reachable when one controller or one cable path is lost. The module handles enclosure services as well as data, reporting drive presence, temperature and power status back to ONTAP.
