The NetApp X3245A-R6 is a controller module for the FAS2240-2 and FAS2240-4 storage systems, carried under NetApp part number 111-00846. The FAS2240 is an entry-level unified storage platform in which the controller and disk shelf share one chassis, and this module is the controller head itself: CPU, memory, onboard network and SAS ports, and the NVRAM that protects writes in flight. Systems are normally fitted with two modules as an HA pair, each able to take over the other’s disks and identity if it fails, so a controller can be replaced without loss of service. The same module serves both the 2U twenty-four-bay 2240-2 and the 4U twelve-bay 2240-4, the difference between those models being the shelf format rather than the controller.
