The Nortel DR4001082 is a Nortel WLAN Access Point 2330, an 802.11a/b/g wireless access point from Nortel’s WLAN 2300 Series. It operates across the 2.4GHz ISM band and the 5.15-5.85GHz UNII band at up to 54Mbit/s, using internal omnidirectional antennas and two 10/100Base-TX Ethernet ports, one of which acts as a redundant connection that the AP can fail over to automatically if its primary uplink is lost. The AP 2330 does not operate standalone: it connects back to a Nortel WLAN Security Switch at Layer 2 or Layer 3, with the switch handling centralised policy, encryption termination and management while the access point performs symmetrical WEP/WPA/TKIP/AES encryption locally in hardware to keep that load off the switch. This centralised-switch architecture was Nortel’s enterprise WLAN model through the mid-to-late 2000s, and a number of these deployments remain in service on sites that have not migrated to newer 802.11n/ac controller-based systems.
