Nortel NTHR91DA: Nortel Passport 15000 AAL1 circuit emulation card, carrying TDM circuits across an ATM network.

The Nortel NTHR91DA is a Passport 15000 AAL1 emulator card. AAL1 is the ATM adaptation layer used to carry constant bit rate traffic, which is how circuit emulation puts 2 Mbit/s and other TDM circuits across an ATM network without changing the equipment at either end.

Passport and DPN-100 nodes are maintained card by card. Interface type, connector standard and port count are fixed by the individual card, which is why the exact part number and release matter far more than the platform name on the front of the rack.
