The Sun 501-5473 is a SPARCengine CP1500 system controller CPU board carrying a 440MHz processor and shipped with no memory, so DIMMs must be added before it will run.

The CP1500 is a CompactPCI single board computer rather than a conventional server motherboard: it plugs into a cPCI backplane in a rack or industrial chassis and acts as host processor for the slots around it. Sun aimed the SPARCengine line at telecoms and embedded system builders who wanted Solaris on a standard bus form factor, and boards of this kind ended up inside network elements, test equipment and control systems with service lives measured in decades.
