Sun X1034A: Quad FastEthernet PCI adapter with four 10/100 RJ-45 ports.

The Sun X1034A is the Quad FastEthernet PCI adapter, known inside Sun as QFE/P and also carried as 501-5406, giving four 10/100BASE-TX RJ45 ports on one 64 bit 33MHz PCI card that also works in a 32 bit slot.

Four independent Fast Ethernet interfaces in a single slot was the standard way to build a multi-homed Sun server: separate subnets for management and production, a dedicated backup network, or all four trunked together. Solaris identifies the ports through the qfe driver, which is in the base operating system, so no additional software is needed.

The card appeared in Ultra workstations and across the Enterprise server range, and it is still sourced for systems whose onboard interfaces have failed or whose configuration depends on the existing interface naming.
