The ZyXEL ES-3148 is a 48-port managed Layer 2 Fast Ethernet switch providing 48 10/100BASE-TX access ports, two SFP slots and two 1000BASE-T gigabit uplinks in a 1U rack-mount chassis. It was positioned as an aggregation-capable access switch for service provider and larger campus deployments, with 802.1Q VLANs, private VLAN and port isolation, spanning tree and rapid spanning tree, link aggregation, IGMP snooping, DHCP snooping, 802.1X authentication, bandwidth control and port mirroring. Management is available through a web interface, a console port, Telnet and SNMP. The mix of high Fast Ethernet port density with both fibre and copper gigabit uplinks is what kept it in service in buildings where the horizontal cabling is 100 Mbit but the riser has been taken to gigabit.
