The ZyXEL GS1100-8HP is an eight-port unmanaged gigabit Ethernet switch with IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at Power over Ethernet on the copper ports, so IP telephones, wireless access points and IP cameras take both data and power from a single patch lead. All ports run at 10/100/1000 Mbit with auto-negotiation and auto-MDI/MDIX, and the unit uses a store-and-forward fabric with jumbo frame support and 802.3x flow control. The PoE power budget is shared across the powered ports, which is the figure to check when planning a mix of high-draw access points and low-draw handsets. It needs no configuration, which makes it a practical edge switch for a small office, a meeting room or a camera cluster where running separate power to each device would be the larger part of the installation cost.
