IBM 42R8607: Dual-Channel Ultra320 SCSI RAID Enablement Card (FC 5727, CCIN 573D).

The IBM 42R8607 is a Dual-Channel Ultra320 SCSI RAID Enablement Card, IBM feature code 5727, CCIN 573D. Unlike a full RAID adapter, an enablement card is a daughter card that fits onto a compatible base SCSI adapter to add hardware RAID capability (RAID 0, 5, 6 or 10) to an existing dual-channel Ultra320 SCSI connection, rather than being a standalone controller in its own right. It is used across IBM’s Power Systems and iSeries/AS400 server ranges wherever a customer needs to upgrade an existing SCSI-attached storage configuration from simple disk access to hardware-redundant RAID without replacing the base adapter entirely. Genuine enablement cards are a routine requirement when restoring a decommissioned system to its original RAID configuration or when an existing card has failed. Specifiers should confirm the base adapter it is intended to pair with before ordering, since enablement cards are not interchangeable across all SCSI adapter families. Tech-Star (UK-based, shipped worldwide) stocks IBM components to support ongoing server maintenance projects.
