The Huawei TN120AU103 is an OAU C-band optical amplifier unit for the OptiX OSN 6800 and OSN 8800 WDM platforms, rated for input down to -4 dBm, output up to 20 dBm and gain in the 24 to 36 dB range.

The OAU is the higher-gain member of the amplifier family and is normally used as a line amplifier at an intermediate site, or as a preamplifier where a long span has left the incoming signal weak. It amplifies the whole C-band multiplex at once rather than channel by channel, which is what makes long DWDM routes practical without regenerating every wavelength.

The gain range is the number that matters when specifying: an amplifier operated outside its designed window either fails to reach the target output or drives the fibre into non-linear effects that degrade the signal it was meant to preserve.
