Finisar FTM-C012R-LSG SFP/GBIC/XFP optical transceivers Optical Transmission Module

The Finisar FTM-C012R-LSG is a 1000BASE-T transceiver. That standard is Gigabit Ethernet over copper twisted pair with an RJ-45 connector, so this is a copper module rather than an optical one, used where a switch’s pluggable cage needs to present an ordinary Ethernet port.

Finisar was one of the main independent manufacturers of optical and copper transceiver modules, supplying both directly and as an original equipment manufacturer to switch and router vendors who then coded the modules to their own systems. Host equipment often checks the vendor identification programmed into a module and will refuse or warn on anything it does not recognise, so knowing which system a module is destined for matters as much as knowing the standard it supports.
