The Radyne Comstream SFC4200 is a synthesized C-band downconverter, converting an incoming signal across the 3.62-4.2GHz C-band downlink range down to a standard 70MHz intermediate frequency for a satellite modem or receiver. Part of Radyne Comstream’s SFC series of frequency converters, it uses a fully synthesized local oscillator, allowing the receive frequency to be set in fine steps rather than fixed at a single channel, which made it a flexible building block for multi-transponder C-band earth stations. Designed for rack mounting in the receive RF chain of a satellite ground station or teleport, it sits between the C-band LNB and the demodulator. Radyne Comstream converters of this era were widely deployed across commercial and government C-band ground stations and remain in service as spares for existing installations.
