Radyne

Radyne Corporation, of Phoenix, Arizona, built satellite earth station equipment: modems, frequency converters and the redundancy switching that keeps a link running when a unit fails. Its products sat at the ground end of satellite circuits carrying broadcast, government and enterprise traffic, where an outage is measured in lost transmission rather than lost packets, so hot standby and automatic changeover were central to the design. Comtech Telecommunications completed its purchase of Radyne in August 2008, at the time the largest acquisition Comtech had made. Tech-Star supplies new and refurbished Radyne hardware including redundancy control units for earth station equipment. Refurbished Radyne hardware remains in demand because earth stations are long-lived installations and a redundancy controller has to match the chassis it was built to switch.
