Comtech EF Data, part of Comtech Telecommunications Corporation, designs and manufactures satellite ground equipment from its plant in Tempe, Arizona, and is a long established name in satellite bandwidth efficiency and link optimisation. The EFData modem lines, including the SDM-300 series and the later CDM range, became standards for closed network SCPC satellite links, offering QPSK modulation with Viterbi forward error correction and, on the CDM-550, a proprietary EDMAC overhead channel for monitoring the distant end of a link. Comtech also supplied the up and downconverters that translate between the modem intermediate frequency and the Ku-band transmit and receive bands. Tech-Star supplies new and refurbished Comtech hardware including SCPC satellite modems, Ku-band upconverters and downconverters.
