The Nortel NT7P23FA is a DPN-100 4M Processor Element, a processing card for the DPN-100, Northern Telecom’s X.25 packet-switching platform used to build public and private packet-data networks before the shift to Frame Relay and IP. The 4M variant carries 4MB of onboard memory, more than the earlier 2M Processor Element (NT7P23AA) in the same card family, and handles the packet-switching and control functions for the DPN-100 node it is fitted to. DPN-100 nodes remain in service in a small number of legacy packet-data networks, where genuine spares of this age are scarce and this card is a specialist replacement rather than routine stock.
