The Cisco UBR-RFSW-CTRL is the Ethernet Controller module for the Cisco RF Switch system, the N+1 redundancy platform used in cable broadband (DOCSIS) headends. It manages RF path switching between working and standby uBR7200/uBR7246VXR or uBR10012 CMTS chassis, using an SNMP control interface so the controlling CMTS can detect a chassis or line-card failure and switch RF connectivity to a standby unit automatically. The controller ships as part of a wider RF Switch shelf alongside power supplies and pre-terminated coaxial cabling, and is the module that carries the switch logic and management interface for the whole assembly. It is a legacy but still-deployed part of many operators’ cable headend high-availability architecture, and genuine spares are needed to keep older RF Switch shelves in full redundant operation.
