The Cisco WS-C2950SX-24 is a Catalyst 2950 series switch with 24 10/100 ports and 2 1000BASE-SX Gigabit fibre ports, running the standard software image. The Catalyst 2950 is an earlier-generation fixed-configuration Layer 2 access switch, predating the 2960 range, and the SX variant’s pair of Gigabit fibre uplinks suit wiring closets needing a fibre connection back to the distribution layer rather than copper. It remains in service in some legacy enterprise LAN deployments that have not yet migrated to newer switch platforms. This is a routine spare for maintaining an existing 2950 deployment where replacing the whole access layer is not currently planned.
