The Cisco DS-CAC-1900W is a 1900-watt hot-swappable AC power supply built for the Cisco MDS 9500 Series multilayer director, a large modular Fibre Channel SAN switch chassis (covering the MDS 9506, 9509 and 9513 models) used as the core SAN fabric switch in enterprise and data-centre storage networks. The 9500 Series accepts multiple supplies of this class for N+1 or N+N redundancy across a fully populated chassis carrying several line cards and supervisor modules, and losing a supply on an under-provisioned chassis can force the switch to shed line cards to stay within its remaining power budget, so maintaining full redundancy matters more on a director-class SAN switch than on most other network appliances. The MDS 9500 Series remains in service as core SAN infrastructure in a number of established data centres.
