The Cisco ILPM-8 is an 8-port inline power module that adds 802.3af Power over Ethernet capability to a Cisco 1800 series integrated services router fitted with an HWIC-D-9ESW nine-port Ethernet switch interface card. The HWIC-D-9ESW itself has no native PoE capability, so wiring closets that need to power IP phones or access points directly from the router’s switch ports fit the ILPM-8 alongside it to supply standards-compliant 802.3af power across all eight downstream Ethernet ports. It slots into the HWIC-D-9ESW’s power connector and draws from the router’s own power system, avoiding the need for a separate PoE injector or midspan on each port. This is a routine upgrade for small branch-office deployments built around the 1800 series where IP telephony or wireless access is being added after the initial router and switch card installation.
