The Cisco MEM-LC-ISE-512 is a 512MB memory upgrade, supplied as two 256MB modules, for the Engine 3 (ISE) line cards used in the Cisco 12000 Series Gigabit Switch Router (GSR). ISE line cards perform packet forwarding locally on the card using their own onboard forwarding tables (FIB and adjacency entries) rather than relying solely on the chassis route processor, and the amount of memory fitted directly limits how large a routing or MPLS label table the card can hold locally; carriers running full BGP tables or heavy MPLS deployments on a 12000-series edge or core router routinely need the larger memory options to avoid forwarding-table exhaustion. This kit is specific to the Engine 3 (ISE) line card generation and is not interchangeable with the memory used on the earlier Engine 0/2 line cards in the same chassis.
