The Cisco MEM2691-64CF is a 64MB CompactFlash card built for the Cisco 2691 router, part of the older 2600 Series-derived modular access router range. It provides the external flash storage that holds the router’s Cisco IOS image, and a card of this capacity was typical for the IOS feature sets available when the 2691 was a current platform, before later IOS releases grew past what 64MB could comfortably hold. The 2691 has long been end-of-sale and superseded first by the 2800 Series and then the 2900 Series ISR G2, but a number remain in service in legacy branch and lab environments, where a working flash card is required before the router will boot an IOS image at all. It uses the standard CompactFlash form factor of its era, programmed and qualified for Cisco IOS use rather than a generic consumer flash card.
