The Nortel NTFN49DD is an eight-port V.11 function processor for the Passport 6400/7400 wide-area switching platform, the standard-tier equivalent of the Premium NTFN49GA card in the same NTFN49-prefix family. It terminates eight V.11 balanced synchronous serial circuits per card into the Passport shelf’s switching fabric, commonly used for leased-line and inter-node connections at the interface speeds V.11 signalling supports. As the standard-tier variant it omits the additional firmware-level features carried by the Premium cards in the same family, while sharing the same physical interface and port density. Passport 6400/7400 nodes built around this kind of serial function-processor mix were a common carrier and large-enterprise WAN aggregation platform through the 1990s and 2000s, and a portion of the installed base remains in service on legacy leased-line infrastructure that has not migrated away from serial WAN connections.
