The Cisco CX-TRIP4 is a 4-port Token Ring Interface Processor (TRIP) for the Cisco 7000 Series router family, providing four Token Ring ports switchable between 4Mbps and 16Mbps operation. The TRIP connects the Cisco 7000’s high-speed CxBus directly to an external Token Ring network via an 802.5 media access unit (MAU) or multistation access unit (MSAU) and a lobe cable per port, and was one of the standard interface processor options Cisco offered for Token Ring connectivity on the 7000 platform. Token Ring networking is now largely retired, but this class of interface processor remains a working spare for legacy 7000-series deployments, older lab networks or specialist environments still running Token Ring segments.
