The Cisco MEM-128CF-AS5XM is a 128MB CompactFlash card built for the Cisco AS5350XM and AS5400XM Universal Gateways, dial and voice-over-IP access platforms widely used by service providers and enterprises for large-scale dial-up remote access and voice gateway functions in the 2000s. It provides the external flash storage that holds the platform’s Cisco IOS image, and the AS5350XM/AS5400XM’s IOS builds, covering dial, voice and gateway feature sets, needed flash of at least this size to run comfortably. The AS5x00 Universal Gateway range has been end-of-sale for a long time as dial access has been phased out almost everywhere, but a small number remain in service handling legacy voice gateway or fax-relay functions, where a working flash card of the correct capacity is required for the platform to boot its IOS image.
