The Cisco MEM3800-256D is a 256MB DRAM module for the Cisco 3800 series integrated services router, covering the 3825 and 3845 platforms. It is fitted as a memory upgrade or replacement to give the router sufficient working memory for larger IOS feature sets, particularly where the router is running combined routing, security, voice and WAN services that draw more heavily on system memory than a base configuration. Memory upgrades of this kind are a routine requirement on 3800 series routers that have been in service for some years, as IOS releases and the feature sets they carry have grown since the platform’s original specification.
