The Cisco WS-X45-SUP8L-E is a Supervisor Engine 8-L-E for the Catalyst 4500-E chassis family, providing 560 Gbps of switching fabric bandwidth and running the supervisor’s control-plane software (routing, management, redundancy) for the whole chassis. It is the entry point of the Sup8 generation, sitting below the higher-bandwidth Sup9-E, and supports the 4500-E’s later IOS-XE feature set. As the active supervisor, it is a single point of failure unless the chassis is fitted with a second supervisor for redundancy, so confirm your chassis slot count and existing supervisor generation before ordering, since supervisors from different Sup generations are not always mixable in the same chassis.
