The ISDN-line ADSL variant is built for deployments where the ADSL service runs over an ISDN-provisioned copper pair rather than a standard POTS line, common in parts of continental Europe, so this card should not be substituted for the plain POTS ADSL WIC used elsewhere. It gives an ISR platform a routed ADSL WAN uplink without a separate external modem, and remains relevant wherever a legacy ADSL circuit of this specific type is still the available access technology.
