The Cisco WS-X4590-E is a fabric redundancy module for the Catalyst 4507R-E and 4510R-E switch chassis, part of the Catalyst 4500 E-Series line of modular enterprise switches. The 4507R-E and 4510R-E support dual Supervisor Engines for redundant switching fabric, and the WS-X4590-E occupies the chassis’s fabric-only slot to provide a dedicated backup switching path independent of the active supervisor, improving overall switch availability during a supervisor failover event. It is fitted alongside, not instead of, the chassis’s supervisor engines, and is specific to the redundant-fabric-capable 4507R-E/4510R-E chassis rather than the standard 4507R or 4510R. This is a common spare for enterprise core and distribution deployments built on the 4500 E-Series that need to maintain full redundancy after a fabric-module failure.
