The Finisar FTLF8524P2BNV-EC is a 4 Gigabit Fibre Channel SFP transceiver with an 850 nm source and an LC duplex connector, working over multimode fibre. It runs at 4.25 Gb/s and negotiates down to 2.125 and 1.0625 Gb/s, so it will sit in a fabric alongside older optics.

The EC suffix identifies an EMC coded build: the optics are the standard 8524 series shortwave part, but the EEPROM carries the identifier EMC storage equipment checks on insertion, which is why a generic module can be refused on a port that accepts this one.
