With no management interface, VLANs or configuration options, it’s a plug-and-play unit that autosenses each port’s speed and duplex mode, making it suitable for basic Fast Ethernet connectivity where nothing more sophisticated is needed. As an older Fast-Ethernet-only model, the 408 predates HP’s later Gigabit-capable value switches, and buyers should expect 10/100 rather than gigabit speeds from this specific model.
