The HP J4812A is a ProCurve Switch 2512, a managed switch with 12 auto-sensing 10/100Base-TX ports plus 2 dedicated uplink slots for Gigabit or fibre connectivity back to the network core. Its smaller 12-port count and dual uplink slots make it suited to smaller wiring closets or branch locations that need managed switching (VLANs, spanning tree) without the port density of larger 24 or 48-port models. As a fixed-configuration switch it operates standalone, and the uplink slots accept a range of ProCurve transceiver or copper module options depending on what the uplink connection requires. This unit is the correct replacement for a failed or end-of-life 2512 already in service. Specifiers should confirm required uplink module type before ordering.
