The HP J4859A is an HP/Finisar-branded 1000Base-LX mini-GBIC transceiver with an LC connector, built by Finisar as the FTRJ-1319-7D and sold under HP’s own part number for use in ProCurve switches with mini-GBIC slots. It runs at 1310nm over single-mode fibre for reaches up to 10km, or over multimode fibre for shorter runs up to around 550m, giving a site flexibility to use whichever fibre type is already run between switches or to a fibre patch panel. It is not interchangeable with HP’s later SFP-based ProCurve ranges, which use a different, smaller form factor. A spare transceiver like this is a routine stock item for sites maintaining older mini-GBIC-slot ProCurve switches, replacing a failed optic without touching the switch itself.
