The HP JG239A is an HP 5500-48G-PoE+ SI switch with two additional interface slots, part of the 5500 EI/SI series HP inherited from 3Com’s H3C-developed switch line following the 2010 acquisition. It provides 48 Gigabit Ethernet ports with PoE+ power budget for access-layer deployments needing to power a large number of IP phones, wireless access points or cameras directly, plus two open slots for optional 10-Gigabit or stacking modules to uplink into the core. The SI designation marks the standard-image variant of the 5500 series (as opposed to the more feature-rich EI enterprise image), aimed at straightforward access deployments rather than full enterprise routing. HP continued developing this H3C-derived platform under its own A-series branding after the acquisition, and 5500-series switches remain common in mid-size enterprise access layers.
