The IBM 03N4801 is an Ultra320 SCSI 6-pack disk unit backplane, for IBM’s 9117-570 and 9406-570 pSeries and System i platform (also referenced under the family designation “DASD cage” in IBM’s own internal terminology, since the backplane and its surrounding disk cage housing are ordered and serviced as a related unit). It provides hot-swap SCSI and power connectivity to six internal disk bays, the larger sibling of the 4-slot backplane (IBM part 03N6000) used in the same server family’s smaller disk cage configurations. Backplanes of this type were IBM’s standard internal storage expansion path for 570-class servers before SAS-based disk cages became the default.
