The IBM 97H7318 is a battery pack unit built for the AS/400 and iSeries systems 5065, 5074, 830 and 840. It is one of a set of four and holds the write cache in a system’s storage controller or memory subsystem safe across a power interruption until the cache can be flushed to disk.

Because it protects data integrity rather than simply providing power, a degraded battery pack is normally treated as a scheduled replacement rather than left in service, and systems of this generation are typically fitted with a full set of four rather than a single unit on its own.
