It occupies the host slot of a CompactPCI backplane and manages the PCI Bus A connection, which in a Motorola high-availability chassis is routed across the backplane to a bridge card and on to a remote CompactPCI bus through a transparent PCI-to-PCI bridge.

The board includes an EIDE interface routed to the J5 User I/O connector for external EIDE storage devices, supporting local boot and diagnostic functions.
