The NEC X1832B1 is a revision of NEC’s X1832B DS3 channel unit for NEC’s FOTS (Fiber Optic Transmission System) FD-1840-series optical transmission platform, part of NEC’s FOTS (Fiber Optic Transmission System) FD-1840-series optical transmission platform, SDH/PDH-generation fibre-optic transmission equipment used to multiplex and carry voice, data and alarm signalling over optical fibre links. A terminal is built from multiplexer, demultiplexer, channel, alarm and power units in a common card-cage shelf, and units are matched to the specific shelf generation and release they were built for.

NEC’s own X1832B is a DS3 channel unit handling the 44.736 Mbit/s tributary rate used across North American networks. The X1832B1 shares that base part number with an added revision suffix, the build-issue convention NEC used within the same card slot and function; issues are not always interchangeable within one shelf, so the exact revision should be matched to the shelf it is replacing.
