The IBM 74Y5512 is a 6-port small-form-factor SAS DASD hard disk backplane, CCIN 2BBE, fitted to IBM’s Power 770/780 (9117/9179-MMB/MHB family) chassis. It provides SAS connectivity for the front drive bays behind which it sits.

POWER7-era backplanes are not interchangeable across chassis sizes. Power 770/780 hardware of this generation remains in active enterprise service, and a spare backplane is a routine requirement when restoring a chassis to full drive capacity after a backplane fault.
