The IBM 80P4990 is a System Processor CEC (Central Electronics Complex) backplane, CCIN 27AE, part of a board family our own trade documentation refers to internally by the codename Cernan, built for the IBM eServer p5/pSeries 9117-570 and 9116-561 servers. Far larger than a single processor card, the CEC backplane is the processor enclosure and backplane assembly that the system’s processor drawers, memory and I/O all connect through, and is fitted as a major system-level repair rather than a routine component swap.

The p5-570/561 platform remains in service across a number of established enterprise Unix/AIX environments, and a genuine CEC backplane is the standard way to recover a system after a backplane-level fault.
