The Cisco WS-X4582 is a spare fan tray for the Catalyst 4510R chassis, the largest member of the R-series (redundant-supervisor-capable) Catalyst 4500 family. As with other Catalyst 4500 fan trays it is a hot-swappable field-replaceable unit providing the forced-air cooling the chassis needs across its full complement of line cards and, in the 4510R’s case, dual supervisor slots.

4510R chassis are commonly found in campus core and data-centre roles where supervisor redundancy justified the larger chassis, and the fan tray is one of the more frequently replaced components on units that have run continuously for years. Confirm the chassis variant (4510R versus 4510R-E) before ordering, as the E-series backplane uses a different fan tray part number.
