3Com 3CGBIC91 Switch 4007 / 4900 / 4050 / 4060 Optical Transmission Module

The 3Com 3CGBIC91 is a 1000Base-SX GBIC transceiver module, providing a multimode fibre Gigabit Ethernet uplink with an SC connector and a reach of up to 550m at 850nm. It’s designed to slot into the GBIC-based expansion ports on 3Com switches including the Switch 4007, Switch 4007R, Switch 4005, SuperStack 3 Switch 4900 family (Switch 4900, 4900 SX, 4924 and 4950), Switch 4050 and Switch 4060, giving those platforms a Gigabit fibre uplink or interconnect option without needing a copper Gigabit run.

As a GBIC (Gigabit Interface Converter), it’s an industry-standard modular transceiver that’s hot-swappable in a live switch, so it can be added or replaced without taking the switch down. Multimode fibre and the 850nm short-wavelength design keep cost down relative to the longer-reach 1000Base-LX GBIC (3CGBIC92), and 550m of reach comfortably covers most in-building and campus-local fibre runs between wiring closets.
