The 3Com 3C16858 is an 8-port 1000BASE-X (GBIC) switching module for the 3Com Switch 7700 series modular chassis switch. Each of its eight ports accepts a separately-purchased GBIC transceiver, supporting both fibre and copper Gigabit media depending on the GBIC fitted.

The module supports on-board local Layer 2 switching, keeping eligible traffic local to the module to reduce backplane and switch fabric loading, and installs into one of the six I/O slots on a Switch 7700 chassis for flexible fibre or mixed-media uplinks.
