The Cisco N20-I6584 is a UCS 2104XP Fabric Extender for the Cisco UCS 5108 Blade Server Chassis, providing the connection point between the blade chassis and the UCS Fabric Interconnects. It carries four external 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports (using SFP+ transceivers) plus internal links to each blade slot’s Chassis Management Controller and network adapters, effectively extending the fabric interconnect’s I/O ports into the chassis without requiring a full switch inside every blade enclosure. Two fabric extenders are typically fitted per chassis for redundancy. It was the entry-generation Fabric Extender for the UCS B-Series platform, later followed by the higher-bandwidth 2204XP/2208XP models. UCS 5108 chassis of this generation remain in service across many established data-centre deployments, and a genuine spare such as this restores chassis-to-fabric connectivity after a module failure.
