The Cisco HWIC-D-9ESW is a nine-port 10/100 Ethernet switch interface card, fitted to a Cisco integrated services router to add a small Layer 2 switch directly into the router’s HWIC expansion slot rather than requiring a separate standalone switch. It gives a branch router local switching for a handful of desktop or device connections at the site without a dedicated access switch, useful for very small branch or teleworker sites where a full standalone switch is not justified. It has no native Power over Ethernet capability of its own; where PoE is needed across its ports, it is paired with the Cisco ILPM-8 inline power module.
