The DFC3BXL performs local, distributed packet forwarding on the line card itself rather than relying solely on the chassis supervisor, and its onboard memory holds the forwarding tables (FIB and adjacency information) that make that distributed lookup possible; more memory supports larger routing and MPLS label tables on cards carrying heavier route volumes. This module is specific to the xCEF720/DFC3BXL generation and is not interchangeable with the memory used on the original CEF256 or CEF720 (non-XL) daughter cards.
