The Cisco FET-40G is a 40 Gigabit Fabric Extender Transceiver in QSFP form factor, using four parallel 10G lanes at 850nm over a 12-fibre MPO/MTP connector, with a reach of up to 100m on OM3 multimode fibre. It is purpose-built for the short, fixed-length links between a Cisco Nexus parent switch and its Nexus 2000 Series Fabric Extenders, and is only qualified for that FEX uplink role rather than general-purpose 40G switch-to-switch connectivity, which uses the standard QSFP+ SR4 optic instead. Because of that restricted qualification, buyers should confirm they are connecting a FEX rather than a general switch uplink before ordering this specific part.
