The Cisco HWIC-1ADSL-M is a single-port ADSL2 and ADSL2+ high-speed WAN interface card supporting Annex M, fitted to Cisco integrated services routers to provide a WAN uplink over standard ADSL broadband lines. Annex M support extends the card beyond ordinary Annex A/B ADSL operation to use the upstream frequency band as well, giving higher upload speeds where the local exchange and line support it – a configuration more common on business-grade ADSL circuits than residential ones. It is a routine fit for branch-office routers using ADSL as a primary or backup WAN connection rather than a leased line, and remains in service on established ISR deployments still running ADSL circuits.
