The Cisco PVDM2-8 is an 8-channel Packet Voice/Fax DSP Module, the entry-level member of the second-generation PVDM family, fitted into Cisco 2800 and 2900 series integrated services routers to provide DSP capacity for voice transcoding, conferencing and fax relay. Eight channels suits smaller branch deployments with modest concurrent-call requirements compared with the higher-density PVDM2-64.

PVDM2-8 modules remain a common low-cost upgrade for small branch routers adding or expanding voice gateway functionality, and are a straightforward way to add DSP resources without replacing the router itself. Confirm the host router model and PVDM slot type before ordering, since the PVDM2 form factor does not fit the later PVDM3 slots on ISR G2 routers.
